The artist appeals to that part of our being... which is a gift and not an acquisition --- and, therefore, more permanently enduring

A Superbowl Commercial
May you grow up to be righteous
May you grow up to be true
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you
May you always be courageous
Stand upright and be strong
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.
- Bob Dylan's Forever Young
In this Superbowl commercial, Pepsi plays up the positive side of tradition. The implication of the song is that our most cherished values stay "forever young."
The irony of the commercial is that many die-hard Dylan fans will look on this commercial as Dylan "selling out," turning his back on his professed anti-establishment values. Bob Dylan allowing his song and image to be used in a Pepsi commercial?!
